Audrey Chambers' Obituary
Audrey Chambers was born to Vivian and Edna Adams on November 14, 1938 on the beautiful Island of Jamaica, West Indies. She was a dedicated employee of the Metro North Railroad in New York City until she retired then relocated to Coconut Creek, Florida. Audrey loved to cook for her large family. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet and could always be found doing crossword puzzles; they relaxed her and kept her mind sharp. Her weekly devotional time would usually begin with watching the ‘Precious Memories’ TV Program, where she would sing along with all the oldies gospel songs, then she would reach for her Bible to read a few of her favorite scriptures. When Audrey was younger and able to, she enjoyed traveling to different countries, and going on cruises.
She was very pleasant to be around. She loved to laugh and looked forward to the yearly family reunions where she would have fun, making jokes with her children, her in-laws and her grandchildren. Audrey was a kind person; she opened her heart and her arms to offer help whenever she could. She gave willingly to those in need, she treated everyone with respect and dignity. Audrey treasured her children and she was loved and cherished by them in return!
She looked forward every day to hearing the phone ring. Whether it was her oldest, Sybil or the youngest, Paulette who spoke with her throughout the day bringing her smiles and conversation or when Jackie would often pop-in and greeted her with, “Hello, Mother Dear”. Mama could also tell by the time of day which one of her 8 children was calling: if it was around 6:00 AM and the phone rang, she would say- “a Dawn dat a call, she on her way to work” or as the phone rang around 4:00 PM, she would say, “Andrea dat, she a leave work now” or if it was about 4:30 PM- she would say, “a Tashai dat now, she on her way home”. When she spoke to Esther, she would ask, “a whe you deh now travel agent?” Mama talked to, and she saw several of her children EVERYDAY - without fail, even while in the hospital. Michael made special visits to be with Mom each Mother’s Day and on her Birthdays. Her In-laws brought her so much joy, talking and joking with them, especially with Ivan on the weekends. Audrey loved her siblings and spoke with them often! She was called often and visited each year by her lifelong friends Jamcie, Hazel and Monica.
Audrey lived a beautiful, rich and full life. She made her final transition at the age of 81 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. She was a loving and loyal wife to Malcolm (Dec. 1999) and a loving and devoted mother to her 8 children: Sybil (Errol), Michael (Carleen), Tashai (Ivan), Esther, Dawn (Donovan), Andrea (Geoffrey), Jacqueline and Paulette. She was the oldest child of her parents, her siblings are: Merle, Barbara, Marian (Oct. 2012), James (Beverly), Neville, Marie (Oct. 2018), and Georgia. Audrey is the grandmother of 16: Dwight (Nancy), Tracey-Ann (Jeramie), Dwayne, Denise (Tony), Kirsten, Akeem, Geofanne, Tiphani, Timothy, Jayson (Katelyn), Qualand, Jessica, Aniessa, Haley, Makayla and Andre.
