Carmen Maria Gonzalez's Obituary
Carmen Maria Gonzalez January 28, 1939 – March 31, 2026
Carmen Maria Gonzalez, born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on January 28, 1939, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. “Una vida llena de amor, familia y generosidad.”
Carmen spent her early years in Puerto Rico before moving to Chicago, Illinois at the age of 19. It was there that she met the love of her life, Alfonso Gonzalez. They were married in November 1960 and built a life centered on love, hard work, and family. While in Chicago, Carmen worked as a machinist and welder at Williams Electronics, where she was known for her strength, dedication, and resilience.
Carmen had a beautiful gift for bringing people together. She loved people, food, plants, and all animals. Su casa siempre estaba abierta. Anyone who stopped by knew they would be welcomed with a warm meal, laughter, and a story that would stay with them long after they left. Siempre había comida, café, y cariño para todos.
In 1999, Carmen and Alfonso retired and moved to Florida, where Carmen continued to do what she loved most caring for others. She became a beloved babysitter and caregiver to many children in her neighborhood. Over time, these families became an extension of her own. Muchos llegaron como vecinos y se quedaron como familia.
Carmen was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Adam; her parents; her husband, Alfonso; her sisters Jenny, Angelica, Ana Celia, and Josephine; and her brother Esmeraldo.
She is survived by her loving children, Edgar Gonzalez (Lisa) and Lynette Gonzalez (Galvez); and her cherished grandchildren, Christian (Rachel), Andrea (Ashley), Zachary (Linnea), Andrew, Tyler, and Alexis.
Carmen’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and devotion to family and community. Su amor y su presencia vivirán en nuestros corazones para siempre. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. “Descansa en paz, Carmen. Tu amor nos guiará siempre.” ❤️
