Carole Belle Popeil's Obituary
Carole Belle Popeil (née Weisbard), age 90, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, in Lake Worth, Florida. Born on May 22, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, Carole lived a full and vibrant life marked by devotion to her family, a sharp wit, and a deep love for animals.
Carole’s early years were spent in the Bronx, where she attended local primary schools before pursuing secretarial training. Her thirst for knowledge continued throughout her life—she later earned a computer certificate from Sheridan Technical College and took liberal arts courses at Broward College simply for the joy of learning.
Her professional journey began at Paul Revere Insurance in Hauppauge, New York, where she worked as a secretary from 1969 to 1974. In 1974 upon moving to South Florida, she joined the Broward County Health Department as an administrative secretary, dedicating two decades of service until her retirement in 1994. Her work ethic and attention to detail left a lasting impression on colleagues and supervisors alike.
Carole was a devoted wife to Howard Popeil and a loving mother to their three children: Larry (Kathy) Popeil, Linda (John) England, and Randi (Greg) Knightes. She cherished her role as grandmother to Jared (Megan) Popeil, Jennifer (Ryan) Oistacher, Katie Popeil, Alex Popeil, Jonathan (Joanna) England, Sarah England, Jessica England, Andrew Knightes, Timothy Knightes, and Tyler Knightes. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Ellie, Jonah, Evangeline, Jameson, Jane, and Julia.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Maxwell and Betty Weisbard and her brother Marvin (Eileen) Weisbard.
Carole’s home was always filled with warmth—and often with rescued cats she lovingly cared for until she found them permanent homes. An avid animal lover throughout her life, she extended compassion not only to people but also to every creature that crossed her path.
Her hands were rarely still; Carole found joy in knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilt making, needlepoint, cross-stitching—and always had a crossword puzzle nearby. She enjoyed playing mahjong and card games with friends and family and could often be found immersed in a good mystery novel. Traveling brought her great pleasure over the years as well.
Those who knew Carole will remember her intelligence and quick wit—she was a gifted storyteller whose humor lit up every room. She gave wise advice freely and loved unconditionally. Her presence was comforting; she was always there when needed most.
Carole Belle Popeil will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and inspiration to those who carry forward the values she held dear.
A Funeral Service will be held on May 21, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Alexander-Levitt Funerals and Cremations 8135 West McNab Road. Cemetery burial immediately following service at 2pm at South Florida National Cemetery Lane 1 at 6501 FL-7 Wellington, FL. 33449.
