My aunt was an individual of exceptional courage, character, and talent. She had grace and internal toughness but was never discourteous. She learned at an early age to handle adversity without complaint and that character is measured by actions and conduct. She was always able to find joy is any situation.
She experienced and did what very few could accomplish or endure. Her lifetime experiences included war, moving to a new country, meeting a new family, learning a new language and customs, and experiencing the frequent relocations required by a military spouse. The many tours of duty included assignments stateside and overseas. During one of those tours she was able to meet with surviving members of the Doolittle Raid and danced with General Doolittle. She told me that he was the only man that she ever danced with who was shorter than her.
She could have been a highly successful model or actress, but declined due to her love and dedication to her family. She pursued that career with much enthusiasm and love.
Visits were always special and with much laughter. She and my uncle had many happy decades together and will now be reunited. My dear Aunt, you have left an incredible legacy of love and achievement. You will always be loved and remembered with much admiration.
Your nephew,
Ben
