Elaine Gobstein, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and lifelong educator, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, just four days shy of her 96th birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 27, 1929, to Benjamin and Sonia Levin, Elaine lived a life marked by devotion to family, a passion for learning, and quiet strength.
Elaine began her professional journey as an interpreter for Standard Oil Company, where her exceptional talent for languages and communication was deeply valued. She later transitioned into education, serving as a foreign language teacher in the New York City Public School System. Her dedication, leadership, and compassion led her to become an elementary school principal, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
In 1988, Elaine and her beloved husband, Harold Gobstein, relocated to Florida, embracing a new chapter of life together. The couple shared 58 years of marriage until Harold’s passing in 2011.
Elaine is survived by her loving daughters, Emily Horwitz (Stephen) and Deborah Rabinowitz; her cherished grandchildren, Lauren Woods (Alan), Andrea Weiner (Lee), Benjamin Horwitz (Jackie), and Jason Rabinowitz (Leandra); and six adored great-grandchildren: Ava, Finley, Riley, Hudson, Noah, and Braden. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mindy Brothers (Marshall); her longtime friend, Manfred Korman; and many other beloved family members who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Elaine will be remembered for her sharp intellect, unwavering dedication to education, and the deep love she gave so freely to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and the family she treasured.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
