Gerald "Jerry" Zucker's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Zucker, longtime resident of Lighthouse Point, Florida passed away at his home on Monday, October 21, 2019. Jerry was born in Wilmington, the only son to Anne and Earle Zucker. Jerry attended West Philadelphia public school system where he earned achievement awards for swimming and diving along with national Yo-Yo Champion status. He was not only competitive in the water but also on land. He played pickup basketball games with Wilt Chamberlain, Guy William Rodgers and many other legends in the school yard.
Jerry attended both the Hussian College of Art with concentration in graphic design and the Museum College of Art with a focus on commercial art.
While attending college, he crashed a friend’s party and met the love of his life, Marlene. He married her three years later and they spent the next 60 years together, charting their own course.
Jerry was an entrepreneur at heart. He was an owner and publisher of a local newspaper until 1979 when he became semi-retired and was able to pursue the other love of his life, sport fishing, on a more regular basis while also shifting his business focus to commercial real estate.
Jerry was happiest when he was out on the ocean with family and friends. He could navigate the seas without digital assistance and earned his captains license. If he wasn’t on the boat, he was riding his motorcycle with the wind in his hair or playing softball with the Over 55 league. Life was always about setting goals, striving to do your best, and most importantly, showing up.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marlene Zucker; his son Scott Zucker and his wife, Linda Zucker; daughter, Randi Press; and grandchildren: Michael Zucker, Zachary Press, and Karli Press.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10:45 am.
