So it’s been really hard to put this into words what she meant to me
She was tall- statuesque and a pillar!
She did so much for many just because.
She had no children of her own but we were all her children.
My mom told me years ago -
My grandfather was arrested by Papa Doc and Ton Ton Macoute was everywhere and my mom decided she had to leave Haiti and Tante Ginette gave her the $$ to go to Africa - Zaire- Congo - when they had recruited Haitian teachers to go their in the early sixties. Thank you for would she have become who she was if not for you.
She was the one that sewed so many wedding dresses and big occasions dresses in our family. And every girl in our family wanted her to make our wedding dress. It was a rite of passage. And with every stitch she sewed love into your garment!
She made my prom dress and my high school graduation dress. I was so sad when she said Melinda would be the last wedding dress she made. But I still had a Tante Ginette original and wore it proudly to Melinda’s wedding.
She gave usnwisdom like only an Auntie could! She was my mother’s older cousin but she was more. I remember her telling me about my mom’s severe acne as a teen and how mine were bad. As a self conscious teen - she made me feel good!
Although my mom is in the throws of Alzheimer’s - I can not bear to tell her one of her favorite cousins has passed ! Another passed a few days before.
Even when Tante Rolla passed - we went to funeral and all she could say was where was Ginette. I still can’t tell her.
I am saddened that I only have one pic of her and it was my wedding - sleep in peace - Tante Ginette!
