Giselle Solomovitz Pechet's Obituary
Dr. Giselle Solomovitz Pechet passed away after a brief illness. A mother, sister, daughter, surgical pathologist, educator, researcher, a silent medical professional for those who knew not what was done for them, and always the steadfast friend.
Dr. Pechet was born in (Bessarabia) Romania, a child survivor of the Antonescu collaboration with the German Nazi regime. Married in Bucharest to her childhood sweetheart, she immigrated to Israel in 1949 completing her medical studies in 1954 at Hadassah Medical School Jerusalem Israel. She practiced at three frontier moshavim, followed by her medical residency in Jerusalem. In 1957 she immigrated to the United States, became a proud citizen who settled in Massachusetts with her hematologist husband, and raised accomplished children.
In Massachusetts, she was a Dana Farber Research Fellow, completed Pathology Medical Residencies at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston City Hospital, was a Pathology Research Fellow and an Instructor at Boston City Hospital, and at the medical schools of Boston University, Harvard University, and Tufts University. An Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Colorado and at the Veterans Hospital, she returned to Massachusetts with her family to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, followed by private practice at hospitals in Norwood and Marlborough until retirement.
Giselle loved her family, always spoke admiringly of her parents, and was beloved and respected by family, friends, and coworkers as a remarkable polyglot, a focused receptive listener able to proffer educated advice. She was blessed with good genes, an amazing memory and intellect, enjoyed cultural events, and was a lifelong learner of Judaism – continually curious to understand the national and world event implications on health and humanity. Giselle Solomovitz Pechet is remembered with great love as a sweetheart by her daughters Roslyn, Eleanor ‘Ellie’, Deborah, and granddaughter Dana.
She was preceded in death by Liberto Pechet z’l, Nurith Pechet z’l, and Iancu Solomovitz Brief z’l.
A private graveside service will be held with a memorial service at a later date. Donations in Dr. Pechet’s name can be made to the Adult Education Fund at Temple Judea 4311 Hood Road Palm Beach Gardens Florida 33410
