Harry Abdirkin's Obituary
Harry S. Abdirkin, 93, of Kings Point Tamarac, formerly of Massepequa Park, New York, passed away surrounded by his family on December 14, 2019.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara (Stiglitz), son, Dr. John Abdirkin (Doug Carson) of Tamarac, son David (Isabel) of St. James, New York, Daughter, Susan Abdirkin of Milford, Connecticut and four grandsons, Jared Abdirkin (Richard Song) and Daniel Abdirkin, Nate and Noah Gallant.
Born in Harbin Manchuria on December 15, 1925, Harry spent his childhood in the Philippines and Shanghai before emigrating to the United States in 1948. He proudly served in the Army Transport Service during World War II and went on to become a successful businessman as owner and operator of Midlawn Hardware located in Seaford, NY. For over 50 years, Midlawn Hardware and the Abdirkin family were the preferred vendors of hardware supplies to surrounding communities until Harry was finally convinced to retire to Florida in 2000.
Upon retirement, Harry took advantage of the Florida weather to continue his love of golf. His volunteer service to the community included JAFCO, Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store and several years delivering for Meals on Wheels.
Harry also enjoyed travel which included trips to Europe, Centeral America, and China.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Evergreen Cemetery 1300 SE 10th Avenue Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. Shiva will be held at the family home after the funeral and Wednesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander-Levitt Funerals & Cremations 8135 W. McNab Road Tamarac, FL 33321.
