Henry W. Brooks' Obituary
Henry William Brooks of Delray Beach died on Monday, March 18, 2024. He
was 94.
Henry was the eldest of Eva and David Brooks’ four sons. Henry was born
and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Brooklyn College with a
degree in accounting. He went on to practice as a CPA in retail and then
founded the largest private CPA practice in Rockland County, NY (Brooks,
Price, and Stirrup). He later retired to Florida.
Henry and his late wife Rhoda (Katzman) were the proud parents of three
children: Dr. Cherylan (Lynn) and sons James and Matthew, of Delray
Beach, FL; Dr. Lawrence (Deborah) and sons Daniel and Jordan, of Los
Angeles, CA; and Ira (Elizabeth) and son Joshua, of Suffern, NY. Henry
was predeceased by his younger brothers Irwin (Air Force officer killed in
the line of duty) and Michael (Shirley) of Scottsdale, AZ. In addition, he
was predeceased by his cherished late-in-life partner, Leo Glickstein.
Henry is also survived by his younger brother, Dr. Robert Brooks (Marilyn)
of Needham, MA, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and greatnephews.
Henry was an avid music lover, especially opera and Broadway shows. He
adored New York City and delighted in the bustling borough. He also wrote
prize-winning short stories, was a voracious reader, and was passionate
about crossword puzzles. He also served as a Corpsman in the Navy during
the Korean War, caring for Marines in a M.A.S.H. camp.
Henry was deeply loved and will be missed by many, both here in the
United States and in Ontario, Canada, the birthplace of his late wife and
home of many family members.
