Herbert Siegel's Obituary
Herbert S Siegel of Lauderhill, FLA passed away at the age of 90 on 7/11/17.
Herbert was born in Mt. Vernon, New York and grew up in Philadelphia PA. He served in World War II, and after returning and going to college, he was a chicken farmer in Bucks County, PA, and then after receiving his PhD at Pennsylvania State University, became a professor of avian physiology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and then spent many years working for the US Department of Agriculture in Athens, GA. He returned to Pennsylvania to become the Head of the Poultry Science Department at Pennsylvania State University until he had the opportunity to do research at the Agricultural University of the Netherlands in Wageningen, Netherlands for nine months.
He was loved by his family and friends and received international recognition for his research.
Herbert is survived by his wife Rhea, three children and 4 grandchildren.
Herbert enjoyed his work as a researcher and teacher also loved reading, walking, singing, traveling, and eating.
