HOPE J. KATZ's Obituary
Hope was born in Providence Rhode Island to Barney and Julia Hochberg and was raised there along with her sister Norma.
Hope graduated from the University of Rhode Island and was a member of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority.
Hope met her late-husband Stanley as a teenager when he was stationed near her home in Providence and they married several years later and had three children. They eventually bought a house in Franklin Square, New York where they raised their family. Hope was a wonderful homemaker and avid bridge player.
Hope later moved to Florida with Stanley where she loved to spend time with friends, playing games and swimming at the pool, as well as with visits from her many grandchildren and great grandchildren who know her best as Nana.
When Hope and Stanley, known as Zayde to their grandchildren and great children, weren’t spending time with family — traveling coast-to coast for family for weddings, graduations and celebrations — they were world travelers. It is hard to find a country they did not visit on their many trips and cruises across their 72-year marriage.
Hope’s passion for traveling, dedication to her family and lively spirit are an inspiration to her family who will remember their mom and Nana for her zest for life.
Hope died peacefully in her sleep on April 2, after spending her last days surrounded by family.
Hope is predeceased by her husband Stanley and survived by her three children David (Amy), Laurie and Cynthia (Richard), her grandchildren Michael (Maria), Jaclyn (Todd), Joseph (Jesse), Arielle (Shelley), Eli, Natalie (Brian) and Rebecca, and her great grandchildren (Robert, Isabella, Branden, Jenna, Juliet and Lydia) as well as her nieces Andrea (Jeff) and Nicole (Jamie), and step grandchildren and great grandchildren in Albuquerque. Hope’s pride and joy were her family and she proudly wore her gold necklace with all the grandchildren’s initials.
Services will be graveside at Eternal Lights Memorial Gardens Boyton Beach on Sunday April 7th 2024 at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC, Bridgewater, NJ or the American Heart Association.
