Press, Ingeborg Maria's Obituary
Ingeborg (“Inger”) Press, 96, beloved mother, grand0mother, and Tante Inger to many, passed peacefully at her home on October 16, 2025, in Miami, Florida. Born on February 20, 1929, in Wielkie Hajduki, Poland, to Helmut and Maria Kostka, her 96 years were the very definition of triumph, tenacity, good fortune, and love.
Although born in Poland, Inger was a proud Berliner. During the dark days of World War II, she was separated from her family at the age of 16 but managed to outrun the Red Army and return to Berlin through her intelligence, perseverance, and guile. These traits made her formidable—a determined and able woman who was a matriarch, an entrepreneur, and fiercely independent to the end—but also gave her an appreciation for life which took her around the world several times over and made her many dear friends.
Back in Berlin, Inger would meet a young American GI at a dance in 1954. This chance meeting with Gene Press would lead to 64 wonderful years of marriage, two children, and four grandchildren. Inger would join Gene in New York in 1956 before they moved to Miami Beach in 1961. In addition to being an incredible mother, wife, and PTA president, she and her best friend Sylvia would own and rent and apartment buildings throughout Miami Beach. Once she and Gene retired, they would split their time between Miami and Connestee Falls in Brevard, North Carolina, where they would golf, entertain friends, and spend time with their beloved family.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Larry and Robert; her daughters-in-law, Denise and Mika; her precious grandchildren, Chloe, Cole, Chelsea, and Lauren; and her dearest nieces Maria and Luisa. We will miss you every day but live the lives of joy we know you wished for us. We will continue to feel her spirit in every cup of coffee or tea, and in every answer to the Sunday crossword.
A private memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Lakeside Memorial Park, Doral, Florida with Shiva to follow immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to give tzedakah in memory of Inger Press to the American Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.org.
