Janet Kane's Obituary
Janet Brin Kane, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on December 12, 2024 at the age of 93. Born on June 13, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, Janet’s journey from childhood to adulthood was marked by the untimely and devastating loss of both of her parents when she was just 14. With two beloved older brothers already serving in the military during World War II, Janet moved to Miami to live with close relatives and it was there she met the love of her life, Terry Kane. Their 45 year marriage took them to Havana, Cuba, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Miami and Boca Raton, Florida where they raised their three children while Terry and his brothers ran a successful heavy equipment company, Kane Caribbean, still in existence today. Through all of their adventures together, Janet adapted to life in Havana and Puerto Rico, as she called, “the rock,” learning Spanish, developing a love for fine art, world travel, gourmet cooking and living a life of unwavering love for her family. She was a woman who lived with grace and determination.
Janet’s curiosity and wisdom were boundless. As Janet and Terry traveled the globe, she especially adored searching for beautiful works of art, instilling her sense of wonder in her three children and six adoring grandchildren. After Terry’s passing in February, 1996, she continued to travel and explore the world and was especially delighted when she was able to take her entire family and all of the grandchildren to Italy for a summer vacation.
She is survived by her sons, Dean and his wife, Lauri and their children Erica and Alex; Scott and his wife, Emily Barr and their children Maxine and Alison; and her daughter, Robin and her husband Albert Dabbah and their children, Taylor and Marcelle.
Her brothers, Henry and Myron, were her pillars of support, and though both passed before her, their love and memory lived on in her heart. Janet’s ability to remain unflappable in the face of any challenge was one of her defining traits. She was a constant source of strength and inspiration to those around her.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 5 at 10:00 AM, at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Miami, Florida with arrangements being made by Alexander-Levitt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Janet’s name to Trustbridge.com.
