Joel Channing's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Joel Channing on September 30, 2025. Joel was the beloved husband of Susan Schneider Channing, devoted father to Jennifer Channing Elegant (Justin Elegant) and Melissa Channing Munchick (Lorin Munchick), the proud grandfather of Luke Elegant, Hudson Elegant and Aria Munchick, a loving brother to Jill Gaffin and Jon Channing, and a cherished and loyal friend to many.
Joel’s life was defined by his limitless love for family, his sharp intellect and humor, and the genuine warmth he extended to everyone he met. He especially treasured his role as “Papa,” finding his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren. His kindness, generosity and spirit will remain an enduring inspiration to all who knew him.
A funeral service honoring Joel’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Beth Sholom, 4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33140. Interment will follow at Mt. Nebo Miami Memorial Gardens, 5505 NW 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33126.
The family will gather for shiva immediately following the interment at the Elegant home, 5925 N. Bay Road, Miami Beach, FL 33140, and again at the Elegant home on Monday, October 6th at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Joel’s memory to the Miami Rescue Mission at https://caringplace.org.
