Julian Schwartz's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Julian (Jay) Howard Schwartz. Jay Schwartz, a cherished father, adored grandfather and great-grandfather, esteemed physician, and accomplished sailor, peacefully passed away on July 18, 2023, in Carmel, Indiana, at the age of 88. Born on January 21, 1935, Jay lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to his family. Originally from Long Island, New York, Jay was the beloved husband of the late Marion Schwartz. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared countless cherished memories in New York, South Florida and while sailing together – whether on the Great South Bay, the Caribbean Sea and everywhere in between. Marion's presence was a constant source of strength and inspiration for Jay, and her memory will forever remain in his heart. Jay’s love and commitment extended to his three sons, David (Ellen) Schwartz, Philip (Julie) Schwartz, and Jonathan (Rebecca) Schwartz, seven grandchildren, Matthew (Rosellen) Schwartz, Barrett (Katy) Schwartz, Eden Schwartz, Jill Schwartz, Emily Schwartz, Remi Schwartz, and Jordan Schwartz and two great-grandchildren, Zeke Schwartz and Benjamin Schwartz. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and the loving families they created. Jay’s role as a father was a testament to his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. He will forever be remembered as a guiding light in their lives. Throughout his career, first as a physician in the United States Army and later in private medical practice in West Islip, New York, Jay dedicated himself to the health and well-being of others. His commitment to duty and his compassion for those in need were evident in every aspect of his life and were regularly displayed during his last years. Beyond his professional achievements, Jay found joy in sailing. An accomplished offshore sailor, every summer he set off with Marion and their children on a “cruise” where they ventured to sailing havens including Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, Montauk, and Block Island. Jay and Marion also spent countless weekends sailing to Fire Island where they enjoyed the company of life-long friends. In retirement, Marion and Jay first sailed from New York to South Florida, later spending weeks at a time sailing and exploring the Bahamas and beyond. Jay possessed a warm and inviting spirit, making him an adored grandfather and a loving friend to many. His genuine kindness, infectious laughter and ability to tell a joke like no other brightened the lives of those around him. Jay’s memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer be physically present, his legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will live on as a guiding light for those who carry his spirit within them. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jay is also survived by his loving sister Roberta (George) Diamond.
A service will be held to honor Jay’s remarkable life on July 24, 2023, at 10:30am at Alexander Levitt Funeral Home, 8135 W McNab Road, Tamarac, Florida. Final Interment will take place at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jay’s name.
