Martin Gold's Obituary
Beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and professor, Dr. Martin I. Gold passed away peacefully on December 12, 2016. He leaves behind his wife and one true love after 65 years of marriage, Betty Miriam Gold. He is also survived by his children, Barbara Ann Gold Forest (David), Cindy Gold, and Michael Gold, and his dear grandchildren, Anastacia Gold, Holly Gold Forest, and Alexander Gold. He is remembered for his years teaching, writing, mentoring hundreds, and practicing Anesthesia at University of Miami, VA Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Maryland, and Hammersmith Hospital (London).
Martin was born November 22, 1928, the youngest of four brothers, Aaron, Norman and Berwyn Gold, all now deceased. His parents were Jacob and Minnie (Marinoff). Martin graduated at the top of his class at Philadelphia's prestigious Central High School and after receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, studied medicine at State University of New York. He did his residency in Anesthesiology in the US Naval Reserve at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston, marrying Betty in 1951.
Martin played drums in his youth, and always loved music, especially jazz and big band groups. He was an avid sports fan, tended to his garden, and had a knack for mechanical invention and repair. Several of his medical devices were patented and remain in use today.
Toward the end of his life he experienced an artistic flowering, and created a series of folk art collages in a mixture of media and found items.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 16 at 10:00 am, Mt. Nebo Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
