Minette C. Young's Obituary
Obituary:
Minette C. Young
Dec 24, 1934-Aug 10, 2018
Minette C. Young, 83, a woman of God, beloved and devoted mother of Janet Lowe-Bernard, Carl Young Jr. and Chester Young, Grandmother of Kaye-Anne Parke, Ayanna Lowe-Thomas, Valentina Lowe, Zale Young, Jordan Young and Tyrese Young and Great-Grandmother of Christian Parke and soon to be of Chickpea, passed away on August 10, 2018.
Minette truly loved her family and friends and no amount was ever too much for them. She loved to tell family stories and experiences and would often repeat them so often that we started finishing her sentences for her. We always thought she should write her own memoir. Grandma loved to laugh, to sing and she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She loved to cook and she had a bit of a green thumb, “except with orchids”, she would say though she loved them most of all. She loved traveling back to Jamaica, which she addressed as “home”, where she always said she would open up a cookie business, a dress making business, singing studio for Val and Zale and any other business that someone had a talent for. She loved to watch country western movies and could name the actors as she saw their faces, one of her favorites being, John Wayne.
Minette was a Nurse’s Aide for most of her life and she loved the job that she did. She was kind to each of her patients and cared for them as though they were her own family. She cared deeply for Mrs. Benson and her family even became like our own. Grandma was a hard worker and we often worried about her working so much but she was always determined to keep working, “God’s willing” she would always say.
Grandma was a modest woman and simple in what was important in life. She did not need the flashiest clothes or the most expensive jewelry. She needed the love of her family and friends. Even in her passing, she would not want her family and friends to mourn her death; instead, she would ask them to celebrate her life.
