Mirmohammad Adili's Obituary
Mirmohammad Adili, 74, unexpectedly passed away on June 17, 2022. Mirmohammad was born in Tehran, Iran on March 20, 1948 to Ezzat Lolo and Seyyed Asghar Adili. Mirmohammad was affectionately known as Captain Moe by his work family, Uncle Moe by his own family, and Moe by all others. Growing up as a young child in Tehran, Moe demonstrated a high business acumen along with having an adventurous, risk-taking character. Even as a teenager, Moe had a penchant for airplanes, an admiration for those individuals who flew them, and a strong desire to travel to the sky. This was evidenced by his frequent visits to airfields in Tehran, getting to meet members of the Iranian Air Force, and eventually in his later teens, becoming a paratrooper undertaking dare-devil stunts on those Tehrani airfields. He did many parachute jumps including a two-minute free fall. In addition to his accomplishments in the air, Moe was also accomplished at sea as he was a certified scuba diver opening the first commercial diving company in Iran called Artemis. Moe would undertake dangerous tasks diving into shark infested waters of the Persian Gulf cleaning and repairing underwater petroleum pipelines. In one of his dives, he encountered and was attacked by a barracuda which resulted in a scar on his shoulder seen by many of his family and friends.
In 1969, Moe traveled as a 21-year-old with his younger brother Mirmasood to the United States initially arriving in New Jersey before settling in Miami, Florida to obtain his dream of becoming a pilot. Not only did he accomplish that, but a few years later in 1974, Moe returned to Iran and became a pilot for the nation’s well recognized airline company known as Air Taxi. Moe returned to Florida and became a chief flight instructor at Airways Charter in Opa Locka, Florida working with his brother Miryahya. Later he was the Director of Training at Trans Island Airways flying between Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas. Then, he joined State Airlines as Director of Operations/Chief Pilot in the late 1970s before he decided to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions and form his own airline in 1982 named Air Sunshine, a company which is still in operation nearly 40 years later.
Air Sunshine began in 1982 as a small airline incorporated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with flight routes mainly within the state of Florida. Sarasota, Florida was a popular destination and Moe had craftily chosen this location since he was aware that larger airlines were not willing to fly there. The decision to make Sarasota, Florida a primary flight route paid off great dividends for Air Sunshine. A couple of years later, Moe made the decision to expand the business operation to international flights as he once again craftily chose Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as another primary flight destination. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba would also prove to be another great business decision due to Moe’s awareness that military members of the United States Navy needed to be flown there and back to the U.S. mainland. Afterwards, Air Sunshine expanded its commercial flight routes into the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, along with countless other Caribbean islands. Air Sunshine had such great business growth in the Caribbean that Moe finally decided to move the company headquarters to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Air Sunshine began as a company in 1982 with just a few employees, but nearly 40 years later, the company had grown to seventy employees as the business decisions made by Moe are primarily responsible for this growth and success.
With all the professional success that Moe achieved, he always remained generous, compassionate, and humble. Whether it was offering his apartment as a young student in his early 20s to anyone who emigrated to the United States from Iran, offering employment to anyone who just had to show great work ethic even if the job candidate lacked the necessary positional skills, not to mention financially assisting countless number of family, friends, and employees to purchase their first homes, Moe was always there as a reliable rock no matter what the circumstances.
Moe is predeceased by his parents, Ezzat Lolo and Seyyed Asghar Adili. Moe is survived by his brothers, Mirhomayoun, Mirmasood, and Miryahya, his sister, Najmeh, along with his niece, Ronnie, nephews Ali, Jobin, Reza, Nika, Shayan, his niece, Niki and Shereen his nephew Bijan along with many cousins.
A memorial service will be held on June 24, 2022 at 10:00 am at Alexander-Levitt Chapel, 8135 W. McNab Road, Tamarac, Florida 33321 followed by a graveside ceremony at 11:30 am at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Avenue, Garden 37, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 3315 at 11:30 am.
