Myah Ali's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the children of Myah Ali announce her passing on December 27, 2023. Myah passed away peacefully in her cherished home with her loving children and grandchildren by her side. Myah was born on October 31, 1939 in Aranguez, Trinidad, to the late Katejan and Hosain Mohammed. She migrated from Trinidad to Waterbury, CT in 1969, eventually moving to Tamarac, FL in 1984 where she lived until her passing. After raising her children, Myah returned to school and earned a nursing degree. She was employed by various health care agencies before accepting a position at Henderson Behavioral Health. Myah enjoyed her work at Henderson and had a caring and supportive relationship with her colleagues. Myah worked for Henderson Behavioral Health for over 25 years finally retiring at the age of 83 for medical reasons and not by choice.
Myah was a gifted seamstress, cook, and gardener. She sewed without patterns, cooked without recipes and had the greenest of thumbs. She freely shared these gifts with her family and friends, feeding anyone who walked through the door, sewing for her children and grandchildren and mailing large boxes of home-grown lemons and mangoes to her children who lived out of state. When she wasn’t working or gardening, Myah enjoyed traveling. Her favorite place to visit was India. Myah’s greatest joy was having a house full of people and the chaos of her children laughing and talking over each other.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Charmain Ali and husband Keith Bergeron, Sheba Mullett, Michael Ali, Chantal Finnemore and husband Travis, Sharan Ocasio, Enesha Ali and husband Chad Warfel and her “adopted” daughter Kathy Noonan as well as her 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters Myroon and Shiroon and brother Shaheed (Sammy) along with many nieces and nephews. Myah was predeceased by her brother Mubarak.
Myah’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her primary care physician Dr. Akkil Ali as well as her oncology team from the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center (Hartford, CT): Dr. Jeffrey Kamradt, Dr. Charles Rutter, Dr. Anoop Meraney and nurse navigator Susanne Carrier for the wonderful compassionate care they provided our mother throughout her cancer journey.
Myah will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Service will be private at the request of the family.
Please celebrate Myah by planting and nurturing something.
