Naomi Velick's Obituary
What a woman! Born in Chicago 1940, the daughter of Beatrice and Albert Witcoff. Naomi is finally back with her “Jer Bear”, Jerry, her husband and best friend of 34 years; they didn’t need anyone else other than each other, and enjoyed taking road trips, cruising or being together. Naomi was fiercely independent, and believed in life-long learning, be it formal education, or self-learning. She attended Ida Crown Jewish Academy (Chicago Jewish Academy) and Roosevelt University, and traveled to Washington DC when she was 18 to explore a career in public relations. She returned to Chicago, and worked as a Workers Compensation Specialist, the founder of the Illinois Workers Compensation Association. Always helping others, and a true leader, Naomi was a member of the National Council of Jewish Women and served as President (and life member) for Hadassah in Delray Beach for five years. Naomi’s legacy of strength, courage, helping others and the thirst for knowledge live through her grandchildren she so loved, Jordan, Sarah and Joseph; and her children Tracy (Marc) and Robert. Your advice, insights, late night phone calls, sharing a knish from the Flea Market, late night bobka muffins or having a Crown & Cream Soda together will be missed! A special thanks to her two angels, Rosa and Josie who helped her for so many years and gave her the companionship and dignity she deserved. We would have been lost without you both. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Hadassah at Hadassah.org.
