Richard Allen Kahn's Obituary
Richard Allen Kahn, 92, of Tamarac Florida, passed away on April 21, 2026.
Born on August 28, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Albert and Doris (Morris) Kahn.
Richard earned his Master’s degree in Geology at New York University.
He later went on to serve as a Financial Analyst for the City Council of New York City, a role that benefited from his sharp mind. In his semi-retirement, he found a way to merge his professional diligence with his passion for driving, taking up work as a taxi driver.
He truly embraced the beauty of the daily routine, a ritual that always began with a medium hot coffee, extra cream, and two Sweet’n Lows. Known for his quick wit and high intelligence, he had a way of making people feel seen; a conversation with him almost inevitably included a sincere, open-hearted offer: "Is there anything I can do for you?" Even in his later days, his humor remained intact—when asked how he was feeling, he’d often cheekily respond, "With my hands."
His intellectual curiosities were anchored by a lifelong love for chess. Whether he was competing at the chess club or immersed in a book on strategy, he found great joy in the game's complexities. When he wasn’t at the chessboard, he was likely pursuing his other passion: building model kits. From boats to trains, he possessed the patience and skill to build intricate worlds in miniature.
Above all, he was a man heavily invested in the success and well-being of others. He was a constant source of support for those who knew him. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Elaine, prior to her passing in 2012, and was later fortunate to find deep companionship and care with his partner, Sandy.
As a father, he was simply without equal. He was a consistent, unwavering presence who provided his son with a lifelong sense of security and the profound knowledge that he would always be taken care of.
He is survived by his son Doug Kahn and his 2 granddaughters, Amelia and Eleanor Kahn who will carry forward his sense of humor and generous spirit.
