Rona Margo's Obituary
Rona Friedelle Margo, nee Lenhoff, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 26, 2024. Rona was the very beloved mother of Nina Benaroch and son-in-law Lee Benaroch. She was known as “Bubbie” to her grandchildren Max and Rachelle, and to her family and younger friends. Her husband, Neal Margo, preceded her in death on January 27, 2018 after 49 years together. She was 82 years old. Rona bravely dealt with cancer, heart disease and other health problems; and after an incredible fight with surgery, chemo and radiation, her doctors declared her to be cancer-free just 2 weeks before her unexpected death.
In the last few weeks of her life, Rona was so happy. She spent her time doing the things she loved, such as working on her hobbies; dancing, hanging out at the pool and attending social events in her community as well as planning a showcase water ballet extravaganza for her friends, Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and the many friends whom she loved.
Rona was born on April 15 1941 in Chicago, IL. Her parents, Samuel Lenhoff and Ruth Berdikoff Lenhoff, and her brother, Gerald Franklin, all preceded her in death.
Rona grew up, married and started her family in Chicago; She, Neal and Nina moved to South Florida in 1973. Neal and Rona quickly made lifelong friends in their new community; then moved to Sunrise, FL and lived there until the early 1990s. Neal’s business in real estate development took them to several custom homes in Davie, Boca Raton and Parkland, FL, all of which were lovingly decorated by Rona, who expressed her artist’s eye over the years in many ways. She created beautiful drawings, paintings, sculptures, stained glass windows and many other art pieces. Rona loved animals and adopted several dogs over the years Rona and Neal took Neal’s mother, Naomi Margo, into their home following a stroke, and cared for her lovingly for more than 8 years.
After 48 years of marriage, Neal passed away and Rona set out to live on her own for the first time in her adult life. She found a thriving, loving community of friends at the Pines of Delray North and there she enjoyed the last years of her life, near Nina and Lee and enjoying her independence and making many new friends. She was very proud of her family and told us often how much she loved us.
Rona was an amazing, kind and generous soul. She will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
