Selma Raisen's Obituary
On Friday, September 8th 2023 , Selma Raisen passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. April 8th ,1932 to Morris and Mollie Gold. Selma is survived by her sister Phyllis Leibowitz , her three children Hilary, Jeff and Ivan, her grandchildren Jessica, Michelle, Justin & Jeremiah and her great grandchildren James and June.
Selma graduated Commercial High School and worked as a bookkeeper for a furrier company. She later became a model for the furrier. She married Stanley Raisen in 1952 and raised her three children in Massapequa , New York where she was active in the community including president of the PTA. Selma was an incredible artist of many disciplines. She was a master seamstress and in addition enjoyed crocheting, knitting and painting. Selma designed and created exquisite ball gowns which she wore at Stanley’s United Nations Annual Balls for nearly two decades. She enjoyed meeting dignitaries , public figures, famous singers , actors and global musicians. She became a Bat Mitzvah at the age of 60 which was an amazing accomplishment to her. She was very active in her congregation and enjoyed singing both at temple, community theater and later in her adult communities. Selma enjoyed Broadway , off broadway shows, concerts and whether she was a performer or in the audience she truly enjoyed the arts as a whole. Selma had an amazing glow and was always complemented on how she dressed and carried herself. She had a life that was truly well lived and is now reunited with Stanley in heaven hearing all of the jokes he’s learned since he departed in 2018. There will be a graveside ceremony held Sunday, September 10 , 2023 . It will be at 11:30 am at the Eternal Light Memorial Gardens 11520 State Road 7 , Boynton Beach , Florida. The family will sit Shiva from 5 pm to 8 pm on Sunday , September 10th at the residence of her daughter Hilary at 20011 NE 25th Ave, Miami , FL 33180.
