Sylvia Ogron's Obituary
Sylvia Ogron (nee Neuman), 100, a longtime resident of Cleveland, Ohio, died peacefully in Delray Beach, Florida, on January 30, 2024, surrounded by her family and caregivers.
Sylvia was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Beile (Bella) and Max Neuman on December 12, 1923. Sylvia was the youngest child and was predeceased by her dear sisters, Yetta, Goldie, and Frances (the Neuman Girls). She attended North High School and graduated in 1941. At age 43, Sylvia enrolled in Cuyahoga Community College in the inaugural class of its Dental Hygiene Program. Upon graduation, Sylvia was the recipient of the Program’s first Outstanding Student Award. She practiced dental hygiene in Ohio and Florida for 30+ years with pride and joy.
A deeply beloved and cherished wife, mother, step-mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling, aunt and friend, Sylvia was known for her humor, baking skills (banana cake, Mandel bread, and assorted pies, especially her legendary apple), her competitive spirit (a Silver Life Master in Duplicate Bridge, tennis, Rummikub, and Pan), her enjoyment of outdoor activities (biking, swimming, traveling), but most particularly, her love and devotion to family. Throughout her life, she knitted and crocheted countless items of clothing and blankets for others, but she was prolific in creating colorful bears that she made to welcome each newborn in her family and to donate to children in hospitals.
On January 5th, 2024, fifty-plus family members and dear friends from around the country gathered at the Sonata Delray courtyard, to honor and celebrate Sylvia's 100th birthday. (100 Years of Love and Laughter).
She is survived by her children, Mark Routman (Terry) of Cleveland, Mississippi; Lloyd Routman (Carol) of Boynton Beach, Florida; Gayle Schwarz of Cleveland, Ohio; and Brent Routman (Marucha) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, her step-children, Sally Rich (the late Kenneth) of Cleveland, Ohio; Lee Kravitz (Kathleen) of Solon, Ohio; and former daughter-in-law Sarah Routman of Bloomington, Minnesota. Sylvia was blessed with 10 grandchildren Howard Routman (Rachel) of Palm Beach, Florida; Ivy Dash, (Justin) of Parkland, Florida; Rebekah Bree Kennedy (Andy) of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Richard Routman (Jen) of Parkland, Florida; Philip Schwarz (Stacy) of Pacific Palisades, California; Adam Schwarz (Annie) of Solon, Ohio; David Routman (Julia) of Rochester, Minnesota; Allison Foox (Uri) of Victoria, Minnesota; Monica Routman of Raleigh, North Carolina; and the late Jacqueline Routman. Sylvia was also enamored with her 19 great-grandchildren, including Morgan (Alex); Carly; Evan; Shayna; Isaac; Anders; Laird; Elliott; Edith; Frankie; and Clementine; Matthew, Jamie; Alex; Jack; Sydney; Brady; Sophia; and Ethan.
Services and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, at Beth David Memorial Garden, 3201 North 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33024. To view this service, go to http://www.shiva.com/join-viewneral (for Sylvia Ogron).
Shiva will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on February 1 with Minyan at 5:00 p.m., and from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Saturday February 3 with Minyan at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Ivy and Justin Dash.
