Victoria Harkins' Obituary
Victoria (Vicki) Harkins, 74, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away on May 24, 2024, after a long, brave battle with colon cancer.
Vicki was born on February 27, 1950, to Joseph and Regina Charnin in Bronx, New York. Vicki grew up in Levittown, New York and graduated from Island Trees High School. She went on to study business at Farmingdale Technical Institute on Long Island.
In 1975, Vicki met Dennis James Harkins in Peekskill, New York. Vicki and Dennis were married in 1977 and went on to have two children, Emily Brooke Voelker and Daniel Joseph Harkins; they divorced in 2007.
Vicki worked in the medical, social services, and elementary education fields for over 20 years, finishing her career as an Investigation Secretary with the Florida Department of Revenue (FDR); she retired from FDR in 2016.
During retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children in southeast Florida and her extended family in Fort Myers - she loved a good family gathering! She also enjoyed reading, listening to music (The Beatles and Billy Joel were favorites), and watching classic movies. Vicki was known for her kindness and sweet personality. She loved her family and friends, her two cats Milo and Otis, and her “grand-dogs” Luke and Bo.
Vicki was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Regina Charnin, along with her aunt Mollie Modiano ("her second mother"). She is survived by Daniel Joseph Harkins (son), Emily Brooke Voelker (daughter), Brian Patrick Voelker (son-in-law), Richard Charnin (brother), and Maia Charnin (sister-in-law).
Services will be held on May 28th at 10:00 AM. at Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens, 4900 Griffin Road, Davie, Florida 33314. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Broward County, the place where her “grand-dogs” that she loved dearly were adopted from: Donate - Humane Society of Broward County (www.humanebroward.com)
