Alan Greenberg
Aunt Anabel was one of my favorite real aunts, and I actually had 11 of them. Yes, that is true!! She was 11 years old when I was born, and when I was about 4 and she was 15, she would stay at our house on Moody Avenue and take care of me, because we were much closer to New Castle High than her parent's place on the South Side (my grandparents). She stayed with us quite a lot and helped raise me until she graduated from Ne-Ca-Hi.
Of course, we became very close, and I was her favorite nephew. In fact, I talked to her very recently, and she sounded great and told me how much she loved me. The feeling is mutual. Down through the years, we always kept in touch and enjoyed reminiscing. Now that I think about it, she passed away at age 96, the same age that my mother (her big sister) passed. Of their 3 sisters in between, none of them lived that long.
My sincere condolences to her children and grandchildren. She will surely be missed.
Sincerely, Alan Greenberg
