Thomas Garriga's Obituary
On Saturday, October 21st 2023, Thomas Garriga of Tamarac, Florida, was welcomed by the Lord into the gates of heaven with his beloved wife, Angela Garriga by his side. Thomas Garriga (Tommy)” was born to Marianno and Aida Garriga on April 6th, 1951 in New York City. He is preceded by one brother, Alfred and four sisters, Dalia, Marie, Carmen, and Aida. He is survived by Esperanza, Margo and Julie.
Tommy’s early jobs, which he held down while acquiring his associate degree, was a bank clerk. While working as an EMS Tech. he also studied to become a paramedic and was able to achieve this milestone in 1978. In 1992, he became a corrections officer. His hard work and dedication were a contributing factor in yielding him the opportunity to become a captain of a maximum-security prison in Walpole, Massachusetts. After becoming ill and being unable to continue his position as captain, he retired shortly thereafter.
He enjoyed going to mass at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church where he was a strong advocate in giving back to the community. He enjoyed DJ’ing, dancing, music, gambling, and the theater. His favorite color was blue, and his favorite pastime was watching his black and white movies.
Tommy is survived by his two sons, Desmond and Christopher Garriga and 2 stepchildren, Arlene Marie and Randy as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a innumerable amount of nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, uncles and friends and will be missed dearly by all who have had the privilege to cross his path.
He will be remembered as a man of spirituality, dignity, strength and grace. In his later years, he was able to enjoy his retired life with his devoted wife, Angie, of many years in Tamarac, Florida.
